Luna Eclipse Aerosol FAQs
Surface Prep

Prepare surface to spray: 

  • Make sure surface is clean of any dirt, debris, oils
  • Application of Luna Eclipse Aerosols should be over either primer or cured clearcoat
  • Scuff surface thoroughly with Grey Scuff Pads or 800g sandpaper until surface is uniformly dull and matte
  • Clean off all sanding dust with dry microfiber towel or compressed air
  • Wipe surface thoroughly with Isopropyl Alcohol or paint degreaser
  • Allow surface to fully dry
Spraying Luna Eclipse Aerosols
  • Shake can well for 45-60 seconds
  • Spray distance should be 5-6 inches away from the surface
  • Apply a medium coat, approximately 75% coverage
  • Apply a medium coat, approximately 75% coverage
  • Apply a light coat, approximately 25% coverage to ensure an even finish.

When you are finished spraying, turn the aerosols upside down and spray a little to clear the cap from any residue.

Time Between Coats

Wait until surface Is visibly dry before applying you next coat.

Drying Before Overcoat

Drying can take from 10 - 25 mins depending on your environment.

Preparation

  • Surface Prep: Clean thoroughly to remove dust, grease and old coatings. Lightly scuff or sand smooth surfaces (P400–P600 grit) to promote adhesion. Wipe with a breathable tack cloth or isopropyl alcohol.
  • Environment: Ideal temperature 65–75 °F (18–24 °C). Relative humidity 40–60 %. Spray in a well-ventilated area or booth to avoid overspray buildup.
  • Personal Protection: Wear a properly fitting respirator rated for solvent vapors. Use nitrile gloves and safety goggles. Keep working area free of open flames or sparks.

Shake & Test

  • Shake the can vigorously for 45–60 seconds, inverting several times to mix pigments and metallic flakes.
  • Test-spray on a disposable card or scrap piece to check atomization, color and coverage before applying to the final part.

Spraying Technique

  • Hold the can 5–6 inches (12–15 cm) from the surface, perpendicular to the panel. Do not tilt.
  • Use smooth, even passes, overlapping each pass by 50 % for uniform coverage.
  • Depress the trigger fully for consistent flow; release fully between passes to avoid drips.
  • Move the can at a steady speed

Layering & Coverage

  • Basecoat (solid colors usually before midcoats): Apply two coats (~85 % coverage each), letting each flash for 2–3 minutes before the next.
  • Midcoat: Apply medium coats (~75 % coverage) over a darker base. Flash time 5–7 minutes or until tack-free (The amount of coats depends on the final color you want)
  • Effect/Pearl Coat (for pearls, metallics or colorshifts): Apply one light “Effect” coat (~25 % coverage) to avoid overpowering. Flash time 5–10 minutes.

Drying before Clearcoat

  • Flash Between Coats: Allow each coat to fully flash (no longer tacky) before recoating to prevent runs and orange peel.
  • After the final coat of color, wait 30 minutes before applying our 2K Clearcoat Aerosol.

Cleanup & Storage

Cap Clearing: turn the can upside down and spray until only propellant comes out - his keeps the valve and cap clean.

Nozzle Care: Remove and clean with solvent (do not soak)

• • Storage: Store cans upright in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Avoid freezing or temperatures above 120 °F (49 °C).
