1 Where to look

Driver door jamb, lower-left of the label. Pre-2000s models use a plate in the engine bay instead

2 What you’ll see

Under COLOR (may sit beside TRIM) — 3 characters (e.g. KH3, QAB). A trailing single letter is interior trim

If it’s not there, check

Under the Hood — Look for a sticker or metal plate on the radiator support, firewall, or inner fender. Common for Ford, GM, and some European vehicles.
Trunk / Spare Tire Area — Some vehicles (especially European) have the paint code on a sticker inside the trunk lid or in the spare tire well.
Glove Box — Check inside the glove box door for a build sticker. Common on some Asian and European manufacturers.
